@janellemonae has created what many have deemed a “bisexual anthem” with one of her most recent singles, “Make Me Feel.” After previously identifying as bisexual, Monae recently clarified that she self-identifies as queer. “I think that love has no sexual orientation. Love has no religious beliefs. As a lesbian singer and songwriter who also self-directs her music videos, @hayleykiyoko aspires to normalize same-sex relationships in mainstream pop. “Most of the time, you become confident after years of struggling during your young adulthood. Kevin Abstract (@iansimpson) is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, producer, and founding member of hip-hop boy band Brockhampton. Frontman of synth pop band @yearsandyears, Olly Alexander, is an openly gay musician and advocate. “It is kind of sad to me that we don’t have gay popstars singing about men using a male pronoun,” he says. As a result, he has used male pronouns in several of the band’s songs. Contemporary R&B singer and songwriter @kehlani officially came out as queer in April following her release of the single “Honey,” an acoustic tribute to her love for women. “I like my girls just like I like my honey,” she sings, accompanied by a vintage-style video featuring newcomer Aariana Johnson.
